Paris, France
Sometimes, it seems so small when you are close to it.
Yep, it's cliche, it's a photo that every tourist has.
While I was making it, around me had a lot of people posing pushing the tower, holding the tower, sitting on the tower... everything! haha

That's rare in my pics, but I did not change the sky this time, but I cleaned the pic in deleting from the image all the people walking and those sitting on the wooden border you can see on the forground :-))
I am fully back :-)
Unfortunately, a great friend of mine was not able to come to Paris as scheduled..
Don't worry Michel, bottles are on standby for next time, and hope very soon! :-))
Concerning the events of the last days here regarding censure, I still feel sad for concerned people and saw that some members deleting themselves accounts..... I regulary read the topic about this matter, but the more I read, the less I understand (why discussions are not in russian?? :-)). I just wait the official conclusions, with the hope that people are intelligent enough to take the right decisions and preserve our great communauty, and I will decide myself what to do accordingly.... But before that, I will try to do what I am for here first : photos....
Have a great week-end dear friends :-)

* La Cour Damoye was built on the lands of the "grand bastion Saint-Antoine," in a part of the old Bastille fortress. In 1780, the old King's archers barracks were purchased by Nicholas Damoye, administrator of the City, who rescued the doors, the windows and the chimneys. Since then, the alley has been called either "Passage Daval" or "Cour Damoye." "La Cour Damoye" was occupied by scrap merchants and other "auvergnats" or ragmen until 1816, when it was purchased by a family that owned it until recently. In 1914, this was the place where cart wheels were repaired. The skilled eye of the photographer Atget captured this working atmosphere—the street lamps, the stored cart wheels on the paving stone, the ladders, and some workshops on the ground floor. There was also a coffee roasting shop and a restaurant. This was a small village where people used to live in harmony, and to this day retains a village-like atmosphere. The architect Didier Drummond, who designed the renovation of "La Cour Damoye" in the late 1990's, also restored the pedestrian area called "Montorgueil-Saint-Denis."

Notre Dame, Paris
The beauty of Notre Dame in Paris shines through even on this wintry day with its overcast soft sky. I was walking along the banks of the Seine and there she was, all her fine ancient details still with us after all these years! Notre Dame was built on the site of other churches and temples. Here is what wikipedia says about Notre Dame: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre_dame_de_paris which includes this timeline of its construction : 1160. Bishop Maurice de Sully (named Bishop of Paris), orders the original cathedral to be demolished.
1163. Cornerstone laid for Notre Dame de Paris - construction begins
1182. Apse and choir completed.
1196. Nave completed. Bishop de Sully dies.
1200. Work begins on Western Façade.
1225. Western Façade completed.
1250. Western Towers and North Rose Window completed
1250–1345. Remaining elements completed
And ..... for a very very different sort of architecture, check out my other post for the day here: www.flickr.com/photos/44548980@N00/245391511/

Rue du Temple, Paris
[Three images here for you, Flickr friends -- of Paris -- all mostly neutral tones and each a glimpse of the human side of Paris. Scroll down for the other two.]
Technical note: I did selective color treatment here in PS, removing green, cyan, magenta, and blue, as it was rather dark already when I took the picture, and I didn't have a tripod, so no chance to get a long exposure and recover the dim colors that way. I also used a very slight bit of blur to soften the mood, then used Channel Mixer to give an overall warm toned effect.
Description: Red Lanterns on Rue du Temple!! One more reason to love Paris and France: a country that has accepted diverse cultures for centuries. How delightful to discover this scene as I was wandering around the Marais, on Chinese New Year 2007. I had come to Paris to photograph historic cafes for a series I am working on, and was crossing through the Marais looking for motifs. I wasn't expecting this: Ancient China meets Rue du Temple in Paris!! My dear, lovely, fascinating Paris.....you are full of surprises!

the Sacred-Heart basilica of montmartre in Paris
Hello dear friends :-)
The sky here (which I changed) is the result of two blended pics (one pic taken when the weather was bad, and another one on a sunny day, but both with a lot of clouds. I apllied a HDR treatment to one of them and changed the colors after blending). The tones of the basilica are also a little bit changed to be more adapted to the tones of the sky. I also added light on the left part of the basilica to give of focus on the green statue.
Have a great and crazy day!! :-))

Notre Dame at Twilight, Paris
There are four photos posted here. Scroll down for the other three, and for a little history of the cathedral. :o)
Notre Dame is one of my favorite places of Paris. When I lived there years ago I used to go inside to sit down and enjoy the cool darkness and the quiet. In recent visits to Paris, I still enter beautiful Notre Dame at least once, to go listen to the soprano singing vespers and just to Be there. It has nothing to do with religion, and everything to do with the amazing beauty of this structure, and the energy there that has grown over the centuries as people of all faiths and walks of life have gone inside to connect with something ineffable but tangible, and greater than themselves. Just a fantastic space!! And if you have a chance to be there around 5:30 or 6:00 PM sit down and wait for the soprano to come sing solo accompanied by the organ, and let the sound wash through you. It is exquisitely beautiful. Although I don't understand the Latin words, the feeling is so very very sincere and moving. Wondrous!
Little secret for those of you who love to find the golden treasures from the angels: look for the little chapel of La Vierge de Lourdes. It's inside along the north wall, near the entrance. Stay there a long while very quietly and watch the candles and the statue, and see what happens. Millions have prayed there. It is a mindspace of gossamer energy that soaks your soul in radiance. It knocked my socks off. And I left the cathedral with eyes of Wonder.

This photo was taken from the Pont Neuf after a rainstorm. The little tree was catching the last glow of sunset in its branches while a couple walked home with baguette in hand in the cold wind.

One of my very first images on flickr has almost 9000 view already!
I lived 20 years not far from the rose house on butte Montmartre, the impressionists painted. At their time it was still a village, a cheap one, not part of Paris, now "in" for the last years.

Winter Evening at the Louvre, Paris
It was just after a storm at dusk, and the lights had just been turned on in I.M. Peis beautiful pyramid in the Cour Napoleon of the Louvre. I adore Paris!! :-) The styles of architecture are different here of course, but that is the charm of this marvellous city! 2001 Space Odyssey meets the Renaissance. Oh yes: Paris nourishes the imagination!
